The startling sound of waves crashing, As we whisper in the dark, Your voice like balm to my wounds, When you tell me we'll never be apart. Dawn breaks, the sky's alight, With pastel hues and an orange flame, And when you touch me, say you trust me, I know I'll never be the same. The next day, I sit amongst the rocks, Crying out, "You were betrayed!" If only this obsession would stop, If only you’d heeded my word and stayed. The waves break against the shore, An anguished testimony to my pain, As you float away, your breath stilled, As I try to save you in vain. “You cannot be gone,” I tell myself, You, who told me I was your dream, You, who taught me to smile, to love, To see life for what it truly means. I will see you again, I know it’s true, I’ll lay down in our bed and look to our lagoon, To the sea, the tide, your eternal tomb, To the luminescent light of the silvery moon.
